Now that the weather is finally letting up, your family will probably start to spend more time near the water. Every parent should be educated on water safety when it comes to their child! Drowning is the 3rd leading cause of injury-related death in ages 19 & under! Here, our Aquatics Department gives you exclusive tips on how your family can stay safe in the water this year:
- TEACH & PREACH! Educate children that is never ok to swim alone, even if they’re a strong swimmer. Make sure you go over basic pool & safety rules every time they go swimming.
- Always watch your child. Don’t treat lifeguards as babysitters; save the distractions for later & give your undivided attention to your children.
- The number 4. If you have a pool at home, make sure you have a 4-sided fence, at least 4 feet high.
- Ensure their safety. According to the CDC, children between the ages of 1-4, who are enrolled in formal swim lessons, are 88% less likely to drown!
See you at the pool & stay safe!
